Winter March is a bustling trade city located at the foothills of a great mountain range. Pilgrims, merchants, and adventurers seeking fortune and opportunity converge here. 37 years ago, the statue of the Winter Goddess was moved from the dangerous mountains to the city's temple. Coincidence or not, that same year an unprecedented snowfall devastated the region. The discontent of Winter March's inhabitants escalated until it erupted into a violent revolt that cost the King and several of his courtiers their lives. Since then, the local aristocracy has stayed away from public life. The city came under the administration of the Merchant Guild, while the nobles merely manage their own fortunes. Today, the figure of the monarch has been reduced to a mere name on paper. Behind that title, however, a murky web of successions marked by secrecy has developed, with heirs who appear and vanish without explanation, along with a persistent trail of betrayals and murders. In any case, the common folk of Winter March care nothing for these intrigues. Whenever the snowfall intensifies, they curse aloud: 'Well dead is the King!' |
